Recommendations and updates from other committees to Cabinet 22 July 2022

Joint Audit and Governance Committee

The committee met on 5 July to discuss:

· Thepensions policy – the committee adopted an updated policy.  There are no recommendations to Cabinet. 

· Monitoring reports from internal audit, the health and safety adviser and the risk management officer.  The committee noted the reports and made no recommendations to Cabinet. 

Scrutiny Committee

The committee met on 28 June to discuss:

· the Active Communities Strategy.  The committee welcomed the strategy and provided comments to officers and Cabinet members.   

· a report on how public consultations are run currently and the next steps suggested to enable a wider reach.  The committee noted the report and provided comments to officers and Cabinet members. 

· the Q4 corporate plan performance report and the annual report 2021/22 were reviewed and comments given. 

· a confidential paper on the outcome of the Covid-19 leisure support package, which was welcomed and noted. 

In each case above the committee made no direct recommendations to Cabinet. 

Climate Emergency Advisory Committee

The committee met on 11 July to receive the updates on:

· the work the new Cabinet member for climate emergency had been involved in since May. 

· performance against the corporate plan climate targets during quarter 4, 2021/22 and the annual report for that year.  

· changes to the climate teamand the next steps in the climate action plan.   

· early stage development of Tiny Forest in the Vale—up to 600 mixed species trees on an area the size of a tennis court, to increase tree cover in urban and deprived areas. 

The committee made no direct recommendations to Cabinet.  However, the committee suggested future topics could include rewilding, a biodiversity bank, and further data on leisure centre decarbonisation.
